A characterful two-storey private guesthouse that blends traditional Nigerian hospitality with contemporary residential comfort — anchored by a traditional main lounge (Obi), a bar, and three well-appointed guest bedrooms across two floors, each with private balcony access.

Project Description

The Uncle Law Guesthouse is a proposed two-storey private hospitality residence that draws its character from the rich tradition of Nigerian communal living and entertainment. More than a simple accommodation building, this project is conceived as a space where guests are received and hosted with genuine generosity — a quality embedded in the architecture itself from the ground floor up.

The ground floor is centred on the main lounge, referred to in the drawings by its traditional Igbo designation as the Obi — the heart of the home and the primary space of welcome, gathering, and conversation. A dedicated bar complements this social space, giving the ground floor an unmistakably convivial atmosphere suited to entertaining family, friends, and visitors. A kitchen ensures guests are well catered for, while a store, lobby, visitors’ WC, and a verandah complete the ground level — the verandah serving as a transitional space between the interior world of the Obi and the life of the compound beyond.

The first floor delivers three private guest bedrooms, each served by its own bathroom, arranged around a central lobby. Two balconies extend from the upper floor, offering guests an elevated outdoor space that brings light, air, and a sense of ease to their stay. The staircase connecting both floors is designed as part of the architectural experience rather than a purely functional element.

The result is a building that honours cultural identity while delivering the comfort and amenity expected of a well-designed modern guesthouse.
