Short Project Overview

A fully planned three-storey specialist hospital commissioned by the Umuahii General Assembly (UGA) Lagos Branch — a landmark healthcare development designed to deliver comprehensive medical services to the Mbieri community and its surrounding areas in Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State.

Project Description

The Umuahii General Assembly Specialist Hospital represents one of EmperorCirkle’s most significant and socially impactful projects — a purpose-built, three-storey medical facility conceived to bring specialist healthcare infrastructure to an underserved community in Imo State. Located adjacent to the Umuahii Community Primary School in Amaike J. Obi Mbieri, the hospital is designed with the operational rigour of a working clinical environment and the spatial clarity that healthcare architecture demands.

The ground floor establishes the hospital’s public and emergency interface. A prominent entrance porch welcomes patients and visitors into a generous reception hall, supported by a dedicated reception desk, waiting areas, and a central circulation lobby that distributes movement efficiently across the plan. Critical ground floor departments include an emergency and accident ward with direct bay access via ramped entry points, a laboratory, pharmacy, medical records department, accounts unit, nurse station, and two consultant offices — all organised to minimise unnecessary patient movement and maximise clinical workflow. Ward 1 and multiple accessible WC facilities complete this level.

The first floor transitions from emergency and outpatient services to a more specialised clinical environment. It accommodates additional consultant offices, a scan room, a scientist’s office, a collecting room, a second ward, an accounts unit, nurse station, and multiple waiting areas — all connected by a central circulation lobby. The layout reflects an understanding of how different patient pathways must coexist within a hospital without creating bottlenecks or compromising clinical efficiency.

The second floor houses the hospital’s most critical and sensitive functions. The main theatre room and scrub room anchor this level, flanked by a delivery room — positioning the facility to handle complex surgical and obstetric care. Three VIP wards, each with en suite facilities, provide premium patient accommodation, while a general ward caters to broader inpatient needs. A medical records and ICT room, chief consultant office, nurse station, and a dedicated porter room complete the floor, supported throughout by adequate WC and hygiene facilities.

Across all three floors, the design prioritises accessibility — demonstrated by the provision of ramped access at multiple points on the ground floor — as well as natural light, ventilation, and the clear separation of clinical, administrative, and patient zones.
